03 / iOS integration

Rout

Integration study

OpenClaw, through
iMessage.

Rout began with a new capability and a gap in the experience: OpenClaw could help with everyday tasks, but reaching it from iOS needed to be easier. I built Rout to explore better iOS integration through iMessage, ahead of OpenClaw’s own support for that experience.

Illustrative iMessage conversation: ask for help, add a detail, and receive an update.

The starting point

I wanted to text
my assistant.

The starting point was a familiar habit: sending a message. Rout explored how that same conversation could become a way to ask an AI assistant for help, on a phone or a Mac.

The project paired OpenClaw’s emerging capabilities with an interface people already use. The goal was to turn promising software into useful everyday tooling: a familiar place to ask, follow up, and receive an update.

The intended experience

A request. A conversation.
A useful update.

  1. Ask when something comes up.

Send a request through iMessage at the moment you need help. The experience should feel as straightforward as texting someone who can take the next step.

  2. Keep the conversation going.

Clarify a request, add a detail, or ask a follow-up in the same thread. The aim was a continuing conversation that carried the request forward.

  3. Let the update come to you.

Have the assistant return with an answer or a useful update where you would see it. For me, the value was staying informed without repeatedly checking on the task.

From capability to experience

Useful help, within reach.

Rout shows how I approach emerging software: spot a missing connection, build around the new capability, and make the result fit a real routine. Its focus is the connection between a powerful assistant and a more compelling experience on iOS.
